Where is Mount Zion today?

REVIEW: The Psalms point to Jesus as a righteous and merciful Judge who brings deliverance to his people and destroys their enemies. The history of God’s merciful dealings with his people should inspire us with praise for his goodness. He instructs his people how to live in harmony with his law and gives them power to do so.

God’s Dwelling Place

1. Where is God’s sanctuary located? God’s sanctuary is in heaven, on heavenly mount Zion where God dwells (Psa. 102:19; 9:11; 20:2; 76:2; 132:13-14).

2. What does Psalm 15 call God’s tabernacle? Psalm 15 calls God’s tabernacle his holy hill (Psa. 15:1; 43:3).

3. Where does David desire to live forever? David desires to dwell continually in God’s tabernacle (Psa. 27:4; 61:4).

4. What does David do in God’s tabernacle? David worships God & offers sacrifices of joy & songs of praise in God’s tabernacle (Psa. 27:6; 132:7).

5. What is in God’s tabernacle? In God’s Zion tabernacle is the river of life, salvation, food, clothing, light, & redemption (Psa. 46:4; 53:6; 74:2; 132:13-17; Isa. 1:27).

6. What is God’s tabernacle in Zion like? God’s tabernacle is a very pleasant, holy, perfect, unmovable, eternal place of glory, safety, & peace (Psa. 46:4-5; 50:2; 84:1, 4; 87:3; 122:7; 125:1).

7. Who are the only ones who live with God in his holy temple? Only those whom God chooses, who live uprightly, & love his character will live in his holy temple. They are “the Israel of God” (Psa. 15:1-5; 69:35-36; 65:4; 125:5; Gal. 6:16).

8. What is the name of the city that is equal to Zion? Mount Zion is used interchangeably with the city of Jerusalem (2 Sam. 5;7; 2 Kings 19:21; Psa. 51:18; 122:1-4; Heb. 12:22).

9. On what hill has Jesus been made king? Jesus has taken his throne on heavenly Mount Zion (not in earthly Jerusalem) (Psa. 2:6; Acts 13:33; Heb. 12:22-24).

10. How can a person become a resident of Zion? To become a resident of Zion a person must be born there (Psa. 87:5-7; John 3:3).

11. If the Lord builds up Zion what must she represent? Zion must be a symbol of God’s church for that is what Jesus builds up & she is called Jerusalem (Psa. 51:18; 102:16; Matt. 16:18; Gal. 4:26; Rev. 21:9-10).

12. What blessing does God give to those found on Mount Zion? Those found on Mount Zion are in Christ by faith & God blesses them with eternal life (Psa. 69:35; 133:3; 134:3; Rev. 14:1).

13. What does Revelation call those who are in Christ on Mount Zion? Revelation calls those in Christ on Mount Zion, the 144,000 who were redeemed from the earth (Rev. 14:1-3).

14. What will be the end of those that hate Zion? Those that hate Zion will be clothed with shame. They will be confounded & worship “the beast” & be blotted out of the Book of the Life of the Lamb (Psa. 129:5; 132:18; Rev. 3:5; 13:8).

15. If the Book of Life contains the names of all who have ever believed in Jesus, how will God determine whose names to remove from that book? It is by an examining judgment that God determines whose names will remain in the book of life & whose will be removed (Psa. 1:5; 9:1-20; 35:23-24; 37:28; 48:11; 72:4; 76:9; 97:8; 99:1-4; 125:1; Isa. 1:27).

16. Where will God hide his people in the time of trouble? In the time of trouble God will hide his people in his tabernacle (Psa. 27:5).17. Is there any reason why God’s people should be looking to earthly mount Zion and the Israeli city of Jerusalem today? No, the day of prophetic significance for earthly Zion & Jerusalem has passed, and we should be looking to Jesus in the heavenly Jerusalem on heavenly Mount Zion (Heb. 12:2, 22-25; Isa. 45:22).
